Fan Site .:. www.halomega.com

http://www.halomega.com/ – A Halo:CE, Halo 2 and Halo 3 Fan site.

This is a forum dedicated to Bungie’s Halo trilogy, produced for Microsoft's xbox.

This site is for everything gaming related to the halo series. There are places to discuss Competitive Gaming, Graphics Design, Video Editing, Single player parts of the game and much more. The site is graphically very professional, with photos from the game at the top of each page. The “skin” of the site was designed by a community member.

Registering and being a member of the site is the best way to get the most from it. Once you have an account, you can post your thoughts and opinions on any topic that is in current discussion. You can also share resources like videos, photos, a lot of which are compiled and edited by ordinary people. Most of the content of the site is user generated, with a Halo theme (i.e. their own game play).Fans are able to:-Download and share videos of the game-Account and profile-Find out lots of information about the game and the gaming community-Make friends of a similar mind. The site is also extremely interactive and encourages a lot of fan feedback:-You can comment on the way the site is run-You can comment on people works, either video or photo. -You can enter a forum discussion-You can contact the makers of the and ask them questions or give them your opinions.
The site is lacking in an “official” way, in that only regular forum goers are able to navigate comfortably. Also, the content of the site, being so user generated, can sometime be of low quality, meaning only die-hard fans of the game tend to come here, more general gamers find the site scary, and also pointless, considering their needs.

The site isn’t “selling” the product to audiences, it is a place where would be fan boys and fanatics can meet and discuss a love the already have.

Key Concepts:

Personalisation, in the UGC that the site consists of.
Democratisation, the site is made by an amateur, but yet still doesn’t restrict its audience for using it to its full extent.
Narrow casting, for the obvious reasons, the site is intended for a niche audience. If the site develops, it also opens opportunities for advertising.

Being a member of the community, I can say, first hand, that the tight-knit feel of the site is amazing. A few weeks ago, several of HoC's GFX's artists (including myself) put our heads together to come out with a collaboration piece, that people can wear around the Internet, to promote the site. The outcome is awesome, and shows how NMTs and UGC can really increase the quality that is seen in the content of non-offcial sites.

The "internet aliases" of those that helped are shown at the bottom.
